Involving people in improving their neighbourhoods.
Spaceshaper 9-14 is a great way for young people and adults to become interested and involved in their local spaces.
Spaceshaper 9-14 is a workshop-based toolkit that enables young people to engage in consultation about public spaces, to assess the quality of a public space to inform its future development. The tool sits alongside Spaceshaper (used with adult audiences), and provides developers, local authorities and others with a methodology for collecting data from all sections of the community.
Whilst developing Spaceshaper 9-14 we found that the tool works well with mixed groups of adults and young people – and can be used as an inter-generational tool, to support engagement and consultation about spaces – be they parks, squares or streets.
A short film was produced to celebrate the launch of Spacehaper 9-14.
“It’s really interesting to get young voices involved,” says Wendy Jackson, Regeneration Manager at Forest of Dean District Council. “There’s a really open and honest approach. If you ask a question, you will get a straight response.”
What do people think?
“Spaceshaper 9-14 is practical and involves young people,” says Claire Smith, neighbourhood environment manager for Wakefield Council Neighbourhood Services.
